President Rodrigo Duterte will announce tonight (May 31) the nationwide quarantine classification for the month of June.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said there has been an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in some areas outside the National Capital Region (NCR) which may push for the escalation of their quarantine status.
“Dahil 31 na po ngayon ng Mayo, sigurado pong ia-anunsiyo mamaya ang quarantine classification… Baka kinakailangang pag-aralan ang posibilidad ng higher quarantine classification sa iba’t-ibang parte ng Visayas at ng Mindanao,” Roque said in his Monday briefing.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairperson Benhur Abalos said NCR mayors have agreed that the further opening of businesses and activities should be gradual and safe, but the decision will still be up to the President.
The President is also expected to issue a decision on whether to extend or lift the travel ban imposed on India and other countries.
“Mayroon pong rekomendasyon ang IATF [Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases] to extend iyong existing travel bans until June 15. Pero uulitin ko po, wala pa pong desisyon ang ating Presidente tungkol dito,” Roque said.
Meanwhile, authorities are set to meet this week to finalize guidelines for economic and government frontline workers’ vaccination.
The government said one million CoronaVac doses are expected to be delivered on June 6, 1.3 million Pfizer doses on June 7, 900,000 Pfizer doses on June 11, and 200,000 Moderna doses on June 21. – Report from Mela Lesmoras/AG-jlo
