Duque clarifies 117k, not 1M, have not returned for second dose

By Pearl Gumapos

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III clarified on Sunday (June 6) that only 117,000 or 9% of all the first dose inoculations have not been given their second dose.

This is following the statement of an expert from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) stating that the number of people who received 1M vaccines have yet to receive their second dose.

“Hindi 1-M ang nag-miss ng 2nd dose [nila]. Actually mga 117-K lang, mga 9% of all the 1st dose inoculation na hindi nakasipot doon sa 2nd dose for a variety of reasons like nagkasakit sila, nagkaroon ng exposure sa COVID, may personal na problema, whatever reason, that’s only 9%,” Duque said.

“Tandaan natin kaya lang parang ganoon ‘yung observation noong isang expert, hindi niya naisip na halimbawa ‘yung Astra [Zeneca], 12 weeks ang pagitan. Hindi naman komo nabakunahan ng Lunes, Martes ibibigay na, hindi eh,” he added.

There will be a ceremonial vaccine rollout on Monday for the A4 category which will be held at the Mall of Asia starting at 10:00 a.m.

Duque said that it was a big thing for A4 category to get vaccinated because they are treated as economic frontliners.

Meanwhile, on June 4, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said around 5.4M individuals have been vaccinated.

“Malapit na tayo mag-breach ng 6-M this coming week. Ang target natin ngayong month, magkaroon tayo ng 4 to 5-M vaccination, so itong linggo, itong target natin, maka-6-M tayo,” he said. -rir
