Pfizer approved for ages 12 to 15

The Department of Health on Tuesday said the country has expanded its emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer vaccine to cover children 12 years old to 15 years old.

However, DOH advised the public to wait for further instructions regarding the vaccine’s rollout due to a supply shortage of vaccine.

“The general consensus of our vaccine experts is to revisit pediatric and adolescent vaccination once our vaccine supply has stabilized,” said Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on May 28 amended the EUA granted to Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine to cover the ages 12 to 15.

FDA Director-General Eric Domingo earlier said experts issued “very favorable” recommendations on the use of Pfizer on minors.

The original EUA issued to Pfizer was for the use of COVID-19 vaccines on 16 years and older.

Meanwhile, 2 million doses of Pfizer are set to arrive this month.-rir
