DepEd eyes possible resumption of face-to-face classes in some areas

The Department of Education (DepEd) aims to pilot face-to-face classes in select areas in either August or September for academic year 2021-2022.

Education Sec. Leonor Briones said during the Cabinet’s Pre-SONA (State of the Nation Address) Forum on Wednesday (July 14) that she has once again proposed the reopening of classes either on August 23, September 6, or September 13.

Amid the threat of COVID-19 spread in classrooms, Briones remained hopeful that President Rodrigo Duterte will consider her recommendation as the national government targets to vaccinate the young population soon.

“Binigyan tayo ng assurance ni [vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez, Jr.] na susubukan nila na by August — perhaps at the latest — kung ma-vaccinate ang ating kabataan at particular ages at saka ‘yung ating mga teachers, pwede na sigurong i-consider yung pino-propose namin palagi na i-pilot ang face-to-face, at dadating at dadating ang panahon na iyan,” Briones said. –  Report from Patrick de Jesus / CF – jlo
