Statement of the SND on a report of alleged human waste and sewage dumped in the South China Sea

We have taken note of the news circulating online about the alleged dumping of waste in the South China Sea. The photo accompanying the news, however, is of a ship on the barrier reef in Australia taken in 2014. We are verifying the correctness of the said report by Simularity.

While we have yet to confirm if these wastes have reached our waters, such irresponsible acts, if true, will undoubtedly cause grave damage to the marine ecology in the region.

Despite overlapping claims and interests by states in the South China Sea, all nations must be responsible stewards of the environment. (DND)
