The country has recorded a total of 472,356 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered on July 22, the highest daily so far since the vaccination program started in March, a health official said Friday.

In a media briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said with the threat of the Delta variant, the vaccination rate should be increased, especially among senior citizens and persons with comorbidities who are at most risk for severe COVID-19.

Latest data from the National Task Force Against COVID-19 show that as of July 23, the country has received a total of 30,985,130 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from six different manufacturers since February 2021.

“We recognize that our speed in vaccination is greatly dependent on the availability of vaccines supplied to the country. Our vaccine cluster is working hard to secure more vaccine doses given the shortage in the global supply,” Vergeire said.

The government aims to inoculate up to 70 million individuals within the year to achieve population protection amid the pandemic. (PNA)
