Doctor calls for safer public transpo protocols

A medical doctor called on the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to implement safer protocols, and urged the public to strictly comply with health protocols when using public transportation.

Dr. Maricar Limpin, Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) president, said the one-seat apart distancing for passengers is no longer sufficient amid the threat posed by the Delta variant.

“Papaano gagawin ‘yon? Ang isa pong paraan ay ang contracting transport services, para sigurado na may mga sasakyan na magdadala doon sa mga tao sa kanilang mga trabaho, ‘yung lugar ng trabaho nila,” she said.

The doctor said in an interview that passengers must have a distance of at least one meter. Public jeepneys and buses are allowed to have a 50% capacity under the current modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

Limpin said airconditioned vehicles must also open their windows, and that plastic barriers must be removed.

“‘Yung mga plastic, dumidikit lang diyan ‘yung virus pagkatapos kapag mahawakan ng mga tao, maaring makuha niya yung virus,” she said. – Report from Rod Lagusad/AG-RIR
