Zambales’ first Delta variant case is a 2-year-old

The local government of Zambales recorded its first COVID-19 Delta variant in a two-year-old girl, Governor Hermogenes Ebdane, Jr. confirmed on (Saturday) Aug. 28.

In a Laging Handa public briefing, Ebdane said the patient, a resident of San Antonio town, was a child of a nurse who tested positive for COVID-19 on July 29.

The nurse was working at Naval Educational Training and Doctrine Command (NETC) in San Antonio, Zambales.

The child’s specimen was sent to the Philippine Genome Center (PGC) on Aug. 5, and the result was released on Aug. 23.

“Noong natanggap iyong resulta [mula sa] PGC, we decided to put them on additional restriction, kaya hanggang ngayon ay nandoon pa iyong mag-a-ama sa quarantine center. At nag-request kami na magpadala uli ng specimen sa PGC,” Ebdane said.

Ebdane said one of the problems they encountered was the inconsistency of the COVID testing results.

“Ang problema dito kasi ay nakita namin, while positive sa Delta, negative ang RT-PCR nila,” Ebdane said.

As of Aug. 28, there are 892 total number of active COVID-19 cases in Zambales. – Report from Karen Villanda / CF -rir
