DOTr resumes ‘libreng sakay’ for medical frontliners, essential workers, APORs

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) resumed its expanded free ride service for medical frontliners, essential workers and authorized persons outside residence (APORs) on Monday (Sept. 13).

The “Libreng Sakay” under the Service Contracting Program of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) were made available in various routes in Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and Northern Mindanao.

According to LTFRB, the program will continue to be implemented under the 2021 General Appropriations Act with an allocation of P3 billion budget until December 2021.

On July 1, the public transport service contracting and Libreng Sakay programs were temporarily suspended as the funds used to pay drivers and operators come from the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act (Bayanihan 2), which has also expired on June 30. – Report from Karen Villanda / CF -rir
