DOH: Face shields may ‘deteriorate’ over time

The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday (Sept. 25) explained that medical-grade face shields may deteriorate over time.

This after it was revealed on Friday that Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corp. tampered with the dates of medical-grade equipment for healthcare workers.

“Just like any other medical commodity, mayroong tinatawag na shelf life. Itong face shields na binibigay namin, this is medical grade… May mga parte ito na maaaring magkaroon ng deterioration over time,” DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

“Mayroon siyang parang foam para hindi masakit sa noo ng ating healthcare workers. Itong mga foam ay na-pu-pulverize iyan, nadudurog. Iyong iba, nag-di-discolor,” she added.

Meanwhile, Vergeire said that the National Reference Laboratory has already asked for documents and specimens from PRC molecular laboratories that produced ‘false positive’ results.

“Ang ating National Reference Laboratory (NRL) naman ay nakapanghingi na at naghihintay pa tayo ng ibang dokumento at specimens coming from the laboratories in question.”

“Ito naman ay regular na proseso ng DOH with our NRL. Nagkakaroon ng regular assurance monitoring kung saan tinitingnan natin ang mga bagay na ito,” she said. – PG – bny
