Sara Duterte joins Lakas-CMD; Marcos Jr. firm on presidential bid

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Thursday evening (Nov. 11) joined the once-ruling party Lakas- Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) of former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The presidential daughter took her oath before party president and House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez, witnessed by party chairperson Sen. Bong Revilla.

This was amid speculations that Duterte-Carpio is running for a national position.

Romualdez said they will have to consult her regarding a possible filing of certificate of candidacy, but added that they do not want to speculate on the reported tandem between her and presidential aspirant Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.

“Well, I guess as they would say, your guess is as good as mine. Let’s not pre-empt them. Let them make a decision, announcements at the proper time,” he said.

Duterte-Carpio thanked her supporters in a chance interview, but refused to comment on any political issues.

“I hope na kung ano man ang mangyari sa mga susunod na mga araw ay maibigay ko sa kanila kung ano gusto nila,” she said.

Marcos Jr. has remained firm that he will seek the presidency amid speculations of a possible tandem with the Davao mayor.

“I have nowhere else to go. I cannot go anywhere. I will not change parties. I entered this race not to play with any of these substitutions or play with the rules. I entered this race with thoughts that I should run for president. That’s what I’m doing,” he said.

Meanwhile, presidential aspirant Ronald dela Rosa is ready to cancel his presidential bid if Duterte-Carpio seeks the presidency. – Report from Daniel Manalastas/AG- jlo
