Official Statement of the Diocese of Tagbilaran

Our province of Bohol is heavily devastated by the super typhoon “Odette.” Based on initial reports, ceilings of houses and infrastructures were critically damaged, including our churches and convents; agricultural plants and trees were uprooted; electrical connections were cut off, as well as water supply; and the number of possible casualties is still to be determined.

As of now, many of those affected by this disaster are in miserable condition and dire need of food, water, clothing, temporary shelter, and medicines. They are confined to their respective towns and villages since most of our road networks are affected by deracinated trees and electrical line posts. Furthermore, communication lines are very difficult as of this time and we are struggling to reach out to affected communities, with power lines and phone networks down.

Given our sad plight and miserable predicament, we humbly appeal to you for cash donations including relief goods of various kinds to the victims. Given the increasing number of casualties and fatalities and those who need to be rehabilitated, more donations are necessary. We turn to you for help and to continue to pray for us. And we humbly request you to assist us in the relief operations and rehabilitation of the victims especially those who are in the far-flung areas and remote villages in the Diocese.
