PBA temporarily pauses Governors’ Cup games

The PBA Commissioner’s Office, with the approval of the PBA Board of Governors in a special meeting on Wednesday (Jan. 5), decided to temporarily postpone its games until such time when the current COVID-19 surge eases.

The league wants to help curb the spread of the virus and to contribute to arresting the alarming rate of infection. The temporary pause will also give time for everyone to heal and prepare for the Governors’ Cup resumption.

The PBA also suspended all team scrimmages even though the government allows them to be held in Level 2 areas.

Further, the league has reduced the number of individuals participating in team individual workouts from 10 to 7. This means that only 4 players will be allowed to train with one coach, one safety officer, and one staff.

“Yung health and safety talaga ng lahat ang importante. Mahirap na, we can’t put the people under our care at risk, ganon din yung mga makakasalamuha nila. Mabuti na yung nag-iingat,” PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said.

The league has already announced the postponement of this week’s games while the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), in an announcement Tuesday (Jan. 4), has allowed pro leagues to resume but in a bubble set-up. (PBA) – bny
