Duterte names Michael Ong as new CA associate justice

MANILA – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte appointed Michael Pastores Ong as new associate justice of the Court of Appeals.

“The Palace congratulates Atty. Michael Pastores Ong as Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals. We wish CA Justice Ong success in the Court of Appeals, and we are confident that he will continue to uphold the rule of law and to dispense justice with integrity, impartiality and probity,” Acting Presidential Spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said in a statement.

According to the transmittal of his appointment letter shared by Supreme Court (SC) public information office on Thursday (Jan. 27), Ong will take over the post vacated by Samuel Gaerlan, who was named Supreme Court associate justice in January 2020.

Ong served as senior deputy executive secretary and was among the 36 candidates recommended by the Judicial Bar and Council to fill six associate justice positions in the CA.

He took his oath before Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo on Thursday morning. (PNA)
