NU, contender sa UAAP — Camangian

TULAD ng iba pang miyembro ng Universities Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP), napilitan ang National University na mag-disband ng ilang sports team bilang bahagi ng pagtitipid bunga ng epekto ng COVID-19 pandemic.

Sa kabila nito, nilinaw ni NU Athletic Director Dr. Rustico “Otie” Camangian na hindi nawala ang iskolarship ng mga atleta, gayundin ang monthly allowances ng mga coach, hanggang makabalik sa tunay na normal na pamumuhay ang bansa.

“Just like other schools, the management decided to disband some sports for this year’s UAAP 84th season. But as a show of generosity of NU management, itinuloy pa rin yung scholarship ng mga players na nag-decide na mag-stay pa rin sa school. Pati yung mga coach natin hindi rin pinabayaan,” pahayag ni Camangian sa kanyang pagbisita sa Tabloids Organization of Philippine Sports, Inc. (TOPS) ‘Usapang Sports via Zoom nitong Huwebes, Peb. 17.


Ayon kay Camangian, may rules sa UAAP na para masiguro ang “continuity” sa pag-aaral ng players, may pagkakataon silang makalipat ng eskwelahan para makapagpatuloy ng paglalaro na hindi na kakailanganin ang eligibility.

Sa kasalukuyan, ang disbanded na team ng NU para sa Season 84 ng UAAP na magbubukas sa Setyembre ay ang seniors at juniors football, table tennis, women’s softball, at men’s chess.

Sa kabila nito, kumpiyansa si Camangian sa matikas na kampanya ng NU sa pagbubukas ng UAAP bunsod na rin ng masinsin na pagsasanay mula sa virtual hanggang sa pagbabalik ng mga atleta sa bubble training sa world-class facility ng NU Laguna Campus.

Bukod sa cheer dance competition kung saan defending champion ang NU, mananatiling sandata ng Bulldogs ang men’s volleyball na ayon kay Camangian ay sasabak muna sa ASEAN University Games sa Hulyo.

“Our men’s volleyball team is the reigning champion in ASEAN University Games and we’re happy and confident na kakayanin nating mag-champion uli dito. Nagpapasalamat kami sa FESSAP at kami ang na-invite nila na magrepresent sa volleyball in 2018,” pahayag ni Camangian sa forum na itinataguyod ng Philippine Sports Commission, Games and Amusements Board, at PAGCOR.

Sa basketball, sinabi ni Camangian na hindi na lalahok ang NU Bulldogs sa pre-season tournament na FIlBasketball.

“According to the coaching staff, nasa rebuilding process pa ang team and technically hindi pa ready ang team. But we’re doing our best para maging contender sa UAAP,” sambit ni Camangian.

Maliban sa basketball, ang mga events na aprubadong lalaruin sa UAAP 84 season ang cheerdance, 3×3, beach volleyball, poomsae at chess. (PR)
