OCTA: Economic keep up must be maintained amid Ukraine-Russia conflict

By Pearl Gumapos

The OCTA Research Group on Monday (Feb. 28) said the Philippines must keep up with the economic impact amid worldwide concerns, especially with the current conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

“With the growing concerns worldwide, especially iyong Ukraine-Russia war, we have to be able to keep up with the economic impact,” OCTA member Dr. Guido David said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

“With the Ukraine-Russia conflict, it changes iyong importance of things. That’s why it’s also important for us to make sure na iyong economic recovery natin is on its way so that ma-minimize iyong impact ng other countries sa ating situation,” he said.

He said the de-escalation to Alert Level 1 is needed to be able to balance public health and the economy.

“Ang nakikita natin ay mababa na rin iyong cases dito sa mga other regions na binaba to Alert Level 1. So, hopefully, kapag mataas iyong vaccine coverage nila ay mami-mitigate iyong possible infections of the unvaccinated,” he said.

“Hopefully ready na rin sila. I can’t speak for the local governments and the public pero, at the same time, we need this na rin. We need to balance public health and the economy,” he added. – bny
