DOST-Calabarzon opens ‘Tambuli’ awards to journos

IMUS CITY, Cavite – The biennial “Tambuli Media Awards”, under the auspices of the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Calabarzon regional office, is now accepting entries from print and broadcast journalists, publishers and radio stations in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.

In a statement, DOST-Calabarzon Public Affairs Relations and Communications Unit (PARCU) said the awards are given to deserving media practitioners in the Calabarzon region as a way of recognizing their invaluable contributions to the development and coverage of science and technology (S&T) news.

DOST-Calabarzon Regional Director Dr. Alexander R. Madrigal conceptualized and initiated the awards in 2000, to be conferred every five years, when he was then DOST Supervising Science Research Specialist.

The presentation of the media awards has been shortened and will now be given every two years, starting this year.

This year’s media entries will now include the digital/online category in recognition of the technological age and legitimate and official online and web-based news outlets.

Entries should include S&T news coverage and published/documented, aired or broadcast by media practitioners and journalists of DOST-Calabarzon programs and projects, and regional advances in S&T; improve media coverage and awareness of the current and future impact of regional advances in S&T ; and increase public awareness of various DOST-Calabarzon programs, projects and services.

The entry which may be a single piece, a series or a body of work, should have been published/aired/broadcast from Oct. 2015 to Oct. 2017.

A single piece and a body of work are given weight based on the submitted number of entries, quality of stories, substance, and motivational appeal or impact on readers/ listeners/viewers, and effectiveness of the style/approach/form of articles/reports released.

The 2017 Tambuli Media Awards will be presented at the celebration of DOST-Calabarzon’s 54th anniversary celebration on Dec. 11.

Cash prizes and trophies are at stake for the individual and institutional awardees in print, radio, television and web categories.
