TIPS: Keeping your data safe online

By Meldred Ivy Padilla

With the technological advancements, people find it convenient and easy to use smartphones, computers, laptops, and the internet, which has drastically changed society to the extent that it has become the preferred communication medium.

Just by a click or two, someone can order a pizza, buy clothes, send a picture, and even manage their credit card. But the catch is, is everyone sure that their logging clicks and personal information are safe?

The following tips recommended by Kaspersky can help you become digitally secure:

Clean web browsing history regularly

It is important to regularly clean the cache and web browsing history not only to speed up your web, but to ensure that your visited sites, saved photos, and accessed personal information will be far from cyber tracking.

Use incognito mode

The incognito tab will prevent information such as visited pages, cookies, passwords, and other data from being stored. This means your activities will not show up when someone tries to use your smartphone or computer.

Choose your browser

It is necessary to carefully choose a browser you will use because this is where you will put all the important information including identity information, passwords, and other data.

Use private search engine

Using a private search engine will prevent you from third parties that might invade your privacy. It will also allow you to search on personal sites without the worry of being monitored by anyone.

Block web trackers

To avoid getting tracked, it is important to “block” any unwanted web across your website. This will help you save your information and data from harmful trackers

Use a VPN connection

A VPN connection is a great help to disguise your IP address when you use the internet. In that way, harmful websites could not track your location or any private links.

According to a group of researchers from Princeton University, every time people use the internet, the websites they have visited could capture what they type, click, and mouseover. It simply indicates that private information can be easily read, accessed, and retrieved by someone else.

Nowadays, reports about hacking, identity theft, online scam, and data tracking are as rampant as technological coming-of-age.

As technology continues to evolve, people’s awareness and consciousness should develop too. Learning the ways how to protect personal information is a great step toward having a safe space in the digital world. – ag
