Agaton death toll up anew, reaches 178

The fatality count of Typhoon Agaton has reached 178 as of Wednesday morning, based on the April 20 report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The number of missing persons also rose to 111, while eight other individuals were injured during the typhoon’s onslaught. Of the total casualties, 68 are males, 52 are females, and 177 have yet to be identified.

Affected families ballooned to 600,062 or 2,081,353 individuals across nine regions and 33 provinces, including 176,010 displaced persons. At least 18 towns have already declared a state of calamity.

Agaton has damaged 11,279 houses with an estimated cost of P709,500 and 45 infrastructures worth P6,950,000. The damage to agriculture has increased to P257,025,441,06.

Meanwhile, only 16% has been restored in terms of power supply in 76 affected towns.

The NDRRMC  said Agaton flooded 825 areas with 98 reported landslide incidents, affecting 309 road sections, 15 bridge sections, and stranded 8,437 passengers. AG-gb
