Nearly P4-M worth of shabu in a baby bottle sterilizer seized

A total of P3,998,400 worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) were seized and two claimants were arrested during a controlled delivery operation jointly conducted by authorities on Thursday, April 28.

The operation was conducted by the Bureau of Customs Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group in Las Piñas City.

At about 8:20 p.m., a certain resident of Pasay city together with a Nigerian national were arrested after receiving the package at Marcos Alvarez Avenue corner Veraville Homes, Talon Singko.

The package was initially discovered by the BOC during X-ray scanning which yielded suspicious images. Subsequently, the package was subjected to complete physical examination.

The assigned customs examiner found 588 grams of white crystalline substances wrapped in aluminum foil and concealed inside a baby bottle sterilizer and dryer.

Records further showed that the package was shipped from Laos and declared the same as “electric steamer.” Chemical tests confirmed the subject substance was shabu.

The claimants are presently undergoing custodial investigation and eventual inquest prosecution for violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, in relation to Sections 119 and 1401 in of RA 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. (BOC)
