PH boosts bilateral relations with Australian institutions

Officials from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) held a scientific visit in Australia to boost its tie with research institutions and universities.

The visit, led by DOST Research and Development Undersecretary Rowena Cristina Guevara, eyed to strengthen existing ties of DOST with research institutions, including the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), the Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organization, and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and trade.

Several concrete partnerships, including a scholarship program with ACIAR were also discussed and will be formalized through an agreement to be signed by DOST with these research institutions.

DOST also forged partnerships with Swinburne University of Technology and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology to strengthen scholarship programs and research activities in the fields of biomedical engineering, food technology, and digital health.

During the visit, DOST also agreed to work in the following areas, namely: emerging diseases and tropical diseases; Internet of Things; agriculture and food security; and marine science with Cook University and innovation on coral reef restoration with the Australian Institute of Marine Science.

The delegation also visited Queensland University of Technology, the Southern Cross University, Griffith University, and University of Queensland. KC-gb
