DILG: COVID-19 protocol violations up

By Alec Go

Health protocol violations recorded from May 22 to June 4 have increased, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reported on Monday night, June 6.

During President Rodrigo Duterte’s Talk to the People, DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said non-wearing of face masks increased to 54,683 or by 35.57% from the previous two week’s around 40,000 record.

Año reported that physical distancing violations increased by more than 31% to 2,875, including 2,734 who were warned, 121 fined or cited, and 20 who rendered community service.

Three mass gathering violations were also tolled during the same period.

“Patuloy po ang ating paalala sa taumbayan na mag-ingat at huwag magpakampante para masigurado ang ating kaligtasan at kaligtasan ng lahat,” Año said.

To date, the Philippines has a cumulative COVID-19 case count of 3,691,724, of which 2,459 are active.

President Duterte reiterated during the same program that he is not keen on lifting the mandatory face mask use in the country, saying that some countries who have removed the policy are experiencing a rise of reported cases.

“It would be very healthy for us just to maintain a little bit longer iyong wearing sa mask,” he said. – gb
