President Rodrigo Duterte urged Filipinos on Monday night, June 6, to support the incoming administration and to be united in facing the country’s challenges.

In his Talk to the People, he encouraged the public to give its support to the coming administration and to cease from politicking which could “divide the country.”

“I urge my fellow Filipinos to rally behind and support our new leaders so that they can build on the gains we have achieved these past six years. We must all be united in confronting the issues ahead of us,” he said.

“We have no room for politicking or go into a divisive exercise in whatever endeavors that you can think of just to divide the country. Huwag nating gawain ‘yan,” he added.

He said the next administration needs “support and solidarity” as they work towards a better future for the country.

Duterte began his speech by stressing that the voice of the people must be respected.

President-elect Marcos would need the cooperation and help of everybody. We must give it to him. That’s democracy, that is how we operate,” he said.

“Kapag nagsalita na ang taumbayan kung sino ang mga lider ng gusto nila, sumunod tayo. Iwasan niyo ang pulitika at lahat ng mga kaibigan ko o nagsuporta sa akin, you rally behind to the elected leaders of our country,” he added.

Meanwhile, he thanked the Filipino people for their trust during his term, and vowed to continue his advocacy against illegal drugs and criminality “to protect the next generation.”  – ag
