Marcos invited to attend climate change conference in Egypt

Egypt Ambassador Ahmed Shehabeldin Ibrahim invited president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday, June 13, to attend the United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference.

The 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) will be hosted by Egypt in November to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh.

“Today I had the pleasure to meet his Excellency, President-Elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and I submitted to him an official congratulations from the Egyptian President, his Excellency Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil El – Sisi… I also took this opportunity to extend the invitation of his Excellency…to take part in November COP27,” Shehabeldin said.

According to Marcos Jr.’s camp, the president-elect is “seriously considering attending the Conference if his schedule would allow it.”

The Conference is expected to discuss the most effective response to the climate change crisis and how nations will begin putting the Paris Agreement into practice at home through legislation, policies, and programs implementation.

Aside from the invitation, the Egypt ambassador also showed their interest to strengthen their relationship with the country through agriculture and tourism, as well as climate change response. – gb
