FDCP’s ‘PeliKULAYa’ celebrates LGBTQIA+ community

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) is celebrating pride month with its “PeliKULAYa”, a film festival showcasing different stories from the LGBTQIA+ community.

With its theme “Pantay-Pantay, Iba’t Ibang Kulay!”, PeliKULAYa aims to empower and to normalize the representation of the LGBTQIA+ in the country.

According to FDCP Chairperson Liza Diño-Seguerra, it is the first LGBTQIA+ film festival that was managed and organized by the FDCP.

Seguerra said that the government has been positive in supporting the Filipino movie industry as well as the members of LGBTQIA+ community.

“So imagine, ang gobyerno ang nagsusulong ng mga istorya para lalong magkaroon ng representasyon ang ating mga LGBTQIA+ na community dito sa Pilipinas,” she said.

Aside from Filipino movies, PeliKULAYa will also screen movies from other countries that garnered international film awards starting on June 10 to 26.

“So June 10 hanggang 26, nag-umpisa na po tayo at tinulungan po tayo ng iba’t ibang foreign embassies like United Kingdom, the US, Spain, Mexico, Chile, Denmark – lahat po sila nagbigay ng mga pelikula,” she said.  – ag
