DOST warns vs ‘fake, suspicious’ social media accounts

By Gabriela Baron

The Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) warned the public against “fake and suspicious” social media groups and pages bearing the name or logo of the institute or the DOST Scholarship Program.

DOST said it recently came across numerous websites and Facebook pages with misleading information about its scholarship programs, including fake job offerings.

The Department cautioned the public against the following social media accounts:

As of posting, the DOST Scholarship 2022 Facebook group has over 143,000 members, while the DOST Scholarship Facebook page has more than 27,000 likes.

The DOST-SEI reminded that its announcements on scholarships and other programs can only be issued by their official Facebook page and the official website with the following links:

“SEI has taken a proper course of action to combat these accounts and would like to affirm its stand against misinformation, disinformation, and mal-information,” DOST said.

“Any suspicious social media account or website may be reported to the Institute via email or through the SEI Facebook page.”

DOST reminded applicants and scholars to course all applications and related concerns to the official email addresses of DOST-SEI scholarship division.  – ag
