A “very productive” Cabinet meeting focusing on the economic status of the country was held at the Malacañang Palace spearheaded by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday, July 5.
Marcos opened the meeting by discussing the economic status of the country, which according to him, will be the government’s “anchor” in their decision-making.
“I asked what we have come to call the economics group, which is the Secretary of Finance [Benjamin Diokno], the [Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas] governor [Felipe Medalla], and the [National Economic and Development Authority], to give us a briefing on the general situation economically because I think we can all understand that the most important area that we will have to deal with will have to be the economy,” he said.
According to Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra, Marcos focused on the significant matters including “controlling inflation, ensuring food security, supporting the transportation sector, and reopening face-to-face classes.”
Moreover, he commended Marcos for making their four-hour meeting “very productive” and discussing every issue “extremely well”.
“He is knowledgeable, organized, and very sharp,” Guevarra added.
Meanwhile, Marcos opposed the suggestion on retrenching employees to reduce the government expenses amid the pandemic recovery.
Furthermore, Marcos faced the media to deliver to the public what they discussed in their cabinet meeting. —Reports from Mela Lesmoras/KC-gb
