The Philippine National Police (PNP) has arrested 64 gun ban violators during the six-day gun ban in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon from July 22-27 for the first State of the Nation Address of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
PNP Director for Operations MGen. Valeriano De Leon said they are still conducting “case review to determine who among them are registered firearms owners.”
De Leon said criminal charges will be automatically filed against those nabbed with loose firearms for illegal possession of firearms or for violating Republic Act 10591 known as the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
Ateneo gun shooting suspect Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol is among the arrested violators.
His other firearm, a caliber .45 pistol, was traced to a soldier assigned in Basilan. Authorities believe that it was acquired from the black market after it was reported lost by an Army officer back in 2019.
“These are the reasons why he was charged with violation of Republic Act 10591,” De Leon said.
De Leon assured that the gun ban violators will be sanctioned accordingly for “disregarding the rules and regulations of the PNP.” –ag
