2 dead in ‘Florita’ onslaught: NDRRMC

Two people have been confirmed dead due to the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Florita, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Thursday, Aug. 25.

In its update, the agency said the number includes one from Ilocos Region while the other is from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Meanwhile, three were confirmed injured in Cagayan Valley.

Still undergoing validation are reports of another death and one injured from Bicol.

Meanwhile, affected families are placed at 11,953 or 47,169 persons residing in 392 barangays (villages) in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, CAR, and the National Capital Region (NCR).

As of this posting, 1,726 families or 6,623 individuals are being sheltered in 129 evacuation centers with the remainder staying with relatives and friends.

Around 30 houses were reported damaged in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley and CAR — 26 of which are “partially damaged” while four are “totally damaged”.

The NDRRMC has yet to release reports on damage to infrastructure and agriculture caused by ‘Florita’. – gb
