MWSS-RO penalizes Maynilad over ‘prolonged’ service interruptions

MANILA – The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) announced on Wednesday its issuance of Resolution No. 2022-12-CA imposing financial penalty on Maynilad worth P9,264,358 for the continued water service interruptions from May to July this year within the Putatan Water Treatment Plant (PWTP) supply zone or the southern part of the West Concession Area.

This, after MWSS-RO found out in its investigation that Maynilad Water Services, Inc. has breached its service obligation of ensuring the availability of an uninterrupted 24-hour supply of water at seven pounds per square inch minimum pressure for more than 15 days to connected customers in Las Piñas City, Muntinlupa City, Parañaque City, and some parts of Cavite Province (Bacoor, Imus, Cavite, Noveleta, and Rosario).

According to MWSS-RO, the penalty will be implemented in the form of bill rebates to affected Maynilad customers by November.

“The nature, scope, and other details of the Rebate Program will further be discussed in October, during a Public Information Drive that will be conducted by the MWSS-RO in cooperation with Maynilad,” the MWSS-RO announcement read, adding that updates on the schedule of the information drive will be posted on the MWSS RO’s official Facebook page, Twitter account, and website (ro.mwss.gov.ph).

With this, Maynilad was directed by MWSS-RO to fast-track the implementation of its proposed mitigating measures to address the deteriorating raw water quality in Laguna Lake and ensure the continuity of water supply within its service area. (PNA
