DOJ ‘very satisfied’ with probe on Lapid, Villamor case

Department of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Friday, Oct. 28, said he is “very satisfied” with the progress of the authorities’ investigation into the murder of veteran broadcaster Percy Lapid, and the death of the alleged middleman Jun Villamor.

Remulla said there is a possibility of filing the cases in the coming week due to the swift progress of their investigation.

“Very satisfactory, I think we’ve made a lot of progress. I think that we can, the proper cases can be filed by the end of next week, hopefully,” Remulla said.

According to DOJ Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Mico Clavano, the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police joint investigation team is continuously taking statements of the persons of interest in the crime.

The authorities are considering the angle of murder in the death of the alleged middleman Villamor.

“Yesterday, we conducted an investigation with the four PDLs [Persons Deprived of Liberty] we transferred from the New Bilibid Prison to the NBI’s custody. They gave their statements, there was a question and answer also, but we formalized this as extrajudicial affidavits already,” Clavano said.

The authorities are scheduled on Saturday to announce the results of the second autopsy performed on Villamor’s body.

The schedule was extended until Saturday as forensic pathologist Dr. Raquel Fortun asked for more time with the autopsy. —Report from Mela Lesmoras/KC – gb
