LAOAG CITY — Following the successful implementation of the Producers to Consumers (P2C) program of the local governments of Ilocos Norte and Quezon City, a memorandum of agreement benefiting both parties is expected to be renewed early next year.
Edison Natividad, head of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Office of the Provincial Capitol, confirmed this on Friday as he reported that llocos Norte has allocated funds for the purchase of a hauler truck to transport the province’s food and agricultural products directly to the Quezon City market.
He said the amount has already been allocated under the province’s 20 percent development fund.
For now, the Ilocos Norte government hires private vehicles to transport Ilocos goods to Quezon City.
Running for almost a year now, the P2C program of Ilocos Norte and Quezon City has generated a huge following of around 7,000 Quezon City Hall employees as regular customers, as well as some outsiders who have discovered the regular trade fair at the Quezon City Hall.
To provide better economic opportunities among micro, small and medium entrepreneurs and consumers, the Ilocos Norte government helps organized accredited farmers and local producers here to bring their products to Quezon City.
The Quezon City government, for its part, facilitates putting up of organized market stalls and exhibits at least twice a month.
Through the implementation of the P2C program, organizers hope to protect consumers from unscrupulous traders and price manipulators by providing them direct access to farm commodities. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
