President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed support on Saturday, Nov. 10, for the efforts of the Republic of Korea (ROK) for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula as he reiterated concerns over the ballistic missile tests of North Korea.

In a bilateral meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol at the sidelines of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, Marcos vowed to rally support for South Korea in its push for denuclearization.

“This is of great concern and we are fully supportive of the Republic of Korea in all your efforts to denuclearize North Korea,” Marcos said.

“The Philippines is one with you on that and we will do what we can to assist South Korea in that effort,” he added.

Both the Philippines and South Korea agreed in the meeting to bolster ties  to enhance cooperation on security, infrastructure, energy, as well as people-to-people exchanges.

On Friday, during the ASEAN-ROK Summit, Marcos also called on nations to work together on renewable energy sources and on protecting and preserving biodiversity.

The Chief Executive also condoled with Korea over the tragic Halloween incident in Itaewon that has left 150 individuals killed.
