President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday, Nov. 18, stressed how economies’ response to environmental challenges is pivotal in “determining the fate of the planet.”

Marcos, during his intervention at the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) Retreat in Bangkok, Thailand, stressed that the economies’ responses are vital to current crises that will affect the future generations.

“How economies respond is critical in determining the fate of the planet we live on and will pass on to our future generations,” Marcos said.

Marcos called on his fellow leaders to work together towards establishing economic and social stability aligned with the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040 that seeks an open, dynamic, resilient, and peaceful Asia-pacific community.

“The world currently faces the greatest environmental challenges of all time00 that it continues to pose threats to the planet, and that is one existential element that we all have to deal with,” he added.

“Indeed, the increased interconnectedness and interdependence of people and economies brought by globalization has led to the progressive world we live in today,” he continued.

Marcos also vowed that his administration will continue promoting the protection of the environment and assured that bilateral and multilateral environmental agreements promoting the protection of the environment “were already enforced.”

“As one of the economies at greatest risk from the climate crisis, the Philippines is committed to advancing these cooperative solutions.” – gb
