United States (US) Vice President Kamala Harris paid a courtesy call to Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte in Malacañang on Monday, Nov. 21.
Harris and Duterte had a meaningful discussion where they discussed education, security, and job creation in both countries.
According to the Office of the Vice President, Harris was impressed by Duterte being the second highest official as well as the education chief in the Philippines.
Duterte cited the great loss and negative effects in the education sector brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As for security, Harris assured Duterte the support of the US in any possible attack or threat on the territory of the Philippines.
On the matters of poverty, Duterte said that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. wanted a 9% poverty incidence before his term ends in 2028.
