French nun Lucile Randon, the world’s oldest person and oldest living nun, died on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at the age of 118 in Toulon, France.
Randon also held the record for the oldest COVID-19 survivor after testing positive for the virus on Jan.16, 2021.
She took the name Sister André in 1944 and spent her life as an educator, a governess, and took care of children during World War II.
“After the war, she spent 28 years working with orphans and elderly people at a hospital in Vichy, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region before becoming a Catholic nun,” the Guinness World Records said.
Randon was just over three years away to become the oldest person ever, a title held by Jeanne Louise Calment from France who lived for 122 years. – gb
