LTO on heightened alert on March 31 to April 10 for lent, summer vacation

The Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) efforts to enhance safety measures for commuters during the Holy Week and summer vacation are in full swing.

In a news release on March 27, the LTO said its entire force will be on heightened alert from March 31 to April 10, including Saturdays and Sundays for the “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa and Summer Vacation 2023.”

“Wala kaming hangad sa LTO kundi ang masigurong mairaraos nang maayos at ligtas ang Holy Week at bakasyon ng ating mga kababayan. Hinihingi rin namin ang pakikiisa ng publiko sa pag-iingat at pagsunod sa mga batas-trapiko para sa biyaheng ayos ngayong taon,”

LTO chief Jay Art Tugade said.

Tugade said the LTO will focus on road safety including roadworthiness inspections of traveling public utility vehicles (PUVs), terminals, and motorist support.

PUV drivers and conductors will also undergo random drug-testing.

The official assured the LTO will be strictly implementing the Land Transportation and Traffic Code and other relevant laws.

It will also apprehend any violators, while its personnel will be responsible for monitoring and securing all areas and terminals across different regions throughout the country.

Meanwhile, a seminar will be held on Wednesday for drivers and conductors of public vehicles as part of the LTO’s promotion of safe travel for the Holy Week. -ag
