The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) of the United States said it considers the food spread peanut butter as a liquid.

TSA said in a Twitter post that peanut butter has been classified as a liquid, thus removing peanut butters over 3.4oz from carry-on baggage.

“You may not be nuts about it, but TSA considers your PB a liquid,” TSA stated. In carry-on, it needs to be 3.4 oz or less,” TSA stated.

“Make sure all your travel-sized liquids fit in one quart-sized bag,” it added.

TSA also said “a liquid has no definite shape and takes a shape dictated by its container.”

When asked if the spread is applied on a sandwich, TSA said that, “solid foods, including peanut butter, jelly sandwiches, are allowed in carry-on bags with no quantity limitations or packaging requirements.” -ag
