6.6-magnitude quake rocks Catanduanes town; aftershocks, damages expected

A 6.6-magnitude earthquake rocked Tuesday night, April 4, Gigmoto, Catanduanes, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic tremor had a depth of focus of 9 kilometers (km) and hit 120 km southeast of Gigmoto at 8:54 p.m.

Intensity II was felt in Palo, Leyte.

Meanwhile, the following Instrumental Intensities was felt in:

  • Intensity IV – San Jorge, SAMAR
  • Intensity II – Legazpi City in Legaspi, Albay; Daet, Camarines Norte; Sipocot, Iriga City, snd Pili, Camarines Sur; Kananga, Dulag, and Abuyog in Leyte; San Roque, Northern Samar; Bulusan and Prieto Diaz in Sorsogon
  • Intensity I – Ragay and Pasacao in Camarines Sur; Quinapondan, Eastern Samar; Palo and Alangalang in Leyte; Monreal and Uson in Masbate; Gumaca, Polillo, Mauban, and Guinayangan, Quezon Province; and Donsol, Sorsogon.

Damages and aftershocks are expected, according to Phivolcs.
