SIM registration still below 50% amid upcoming deadline

By Arabella Asis

With 22 days remaining, SIM registration is still experiencing low turnout with only 58,268,866 registered out of 168,977,773 subscribers nationwide.

As of April 5, the number of registered SIMs are as follows:

DITO – 4,452,203
Globe – 24,398,734
SMART – 29,417,929

Recent data from the Department of Information and Communications (DICT) showed that only 34.48% of subscribers are registered.

Meanwhile, Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte called out for more registration booths and an assistance desk to fast-track the registration.

Despite continuous encouragement to register, DICT Undersecretary and Spokesperson Anna Mae Lamentillo warns the public about scammers posing as assistants for SIM registration.

“Be wary of entities who may have malicious intentions to steal personal information and commit fraud. Always register through official links of PTEs to avoid fraudulent activities,” Lamentillo stated.

Subscribers may register through the following official links:

DITO – https://digital.dito.ph/pto/download/app
GLOBE – new.globe.com.ph/simreg
SMART – https://simreg.smart.com.ph

Failure to register before April 26 will automatically deactivate the SIMs.

SIM Registration Act aims to safeguard subscribers against online and mobile fraud. –ag
