Borongan Bishop voices alarm over mining activities in Homonhon Island

A bishop from Borongan, Eastern Samar voiced alarm over mining activities in Homonhon Island.

In a statement released Tuesday, April 11, Most. Rev. Crispin Varquez said he is “very much disturbed” by the mining operations in Homonhon Island.

“At present, there are four active mining companies operating in the island,” Varquez said.

“Their immediate and negative effects on the communities and the natural environment are very alarming,” he added.

Varquez called on government leaders and concerned agencies to take action on the mining activities in the island. -ag
