85 boat passengers rescued in Lanao del Norte

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued 85 passengers including five infants in a motor vessel that ran aground in Maigo Point, Lanao del Norte on Thursday evening, April 20.

In an update, the PCG said MV Filipinas Cebu got stranded at 6:00 p.m. with no fatalities recorded.

“Siniguro ng PCG ang kaligtasan ng 85 pasahero na maingat na isinakay sa tugboat Foscon Diamond na ginamit sa naturang operasyon,” the PCG said.

The passenger vessel, operated by the Cokaliong Shipping Lines, was on its way to Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental from Lanao del Norte.

No oil sheens were detected based on the Marine Environmental Protection Unit’s assessment. 

“Sa kabila nito, naglagay pa rin ng oil spill booms ang PCG para masigurong hindi makapagdudulot ng masamang epekto sa katubigan ang naturang insidente,” said the PCG. – cf
