The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Sunday, April 23, reminded commuters that face mask mandates continue in all railway systems due to the rising COVID-19 cases in the country.

DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette Aquino said wearing of face masks is mandatory inside the trains of the Light Rail Transit (LRT), Metro Rail Transit (MRT), and Philippine National Railways (PNR) as a preventive measure against COVID-19.

He added that face masks must also be worn in LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 stations.

Meanwhile, the policy is optional for PNR stations which are considered open spaces.

Aquino then urged the riding public to wear their face masks in order to protect themselves and their fellow commuters from COVID-19.

“Even if you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you can still become infected and potentially spread the virus to others,” the rail sector official said.

As of April 21, the Department of Health logged a total of 4,657 active cases in the country. – gb
