No drugs found in Cebu jail raid

CEBU CITY — No illegal drugs were found inside the Cebu City Jail when combined forces of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Region 7 (PDEA-7), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and police raided the detention facility at 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

PDEA-7 Director Emerson Margate said although the surprise Greyhound Operation yielded no drugs, several paraphernalia for sniffing methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” were found in several of the jail cells.

City jail warden Reynante Rubio attributed the negative result to the tight security being implemented at the facility, discouraging visitors from bringing in illegal drugs and other contraband.

Rubio said he also issued a stern warning to the inmates and the jail guards or anybody caught smuggling drugs inside the Cebu City Jail that they would be charged accordingly.

Margate also attributed the result to their regular Greyhound Operation raids and surprise inspections at the city jail.

Aside from the drug paraphernalia, the raiding team also confiscated several contrabands, including improvised bladed weapons and cellular phones, which were being inventoried as of this writing. (PNA)
