Aklan declares state of calamity due to ASF outbreak

The Province of Aklan declared on Friday, May 19, a state of calamity due to the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak.

Aklan Vice Governor Reynaldo Quimpo approved on Friday a resolution declaring a state of calamity in the entire province.

The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian confirmed the seven municipalities have already recorded cases of ASF, namely: Balete, Tanglan, Makato, Numancia, Batan, and New Washington.

The ASF is caused by a virus that is fatal and contagious to pigs.

There are currently no vaccines for the ASF virus. – cf
