3K tents on standby for Albay evacuees

A total of 3,000 tents are on standby for families in Albay that will be possibly evacuated due to the volcanic unrest, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported.

On Friday, June 9, 26 families living in Sitio Nagsipit in Barangay Mariroc in Tabaco City were evacuated from their residence which is within the six-kilometer permanent danger zone.

The affected residents are now being sheltered at the Pawa evacuation center.

DSWD Assistant Secretary Marlon Alaga said the 3,000 tents will be used by the projected 15,000 families in the expanded eight to 10 kilometer danger zone.

DSWD said there were already 54,000 family food packs (FFPs) already prepositioned in Albay, meanwhile, an additional 68,000 FFPs will be sent by the DSWD Central office.

Mayon Volcano is currently under Alert Level 3.

In 2018, Mayon Volcano eruption lasted two months and 16 days, from Jan. 13 until March 29, with the total number of families affected pegged at 23,786 and were given temporary shelter in 96 evacuation centers. – cf
