The Albay provincial government will be providing livelihood training programs to families situated at the evacuation centers amid the intensified unrest of Mayon Volcano.

The Albay Provincial Information Office (PIO) said coordination is underway between the local government of ALbay and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for possible training programs that may be given to the affected families.

“Ang nasabing hakbang ay bahagi lamang ng paghahanda ng lalawigan sakaling tumagal pa ang pagpapakita ng [abnormalidad] ng Bulkang Mayon,” Albay PIO said in a release.

Albay Governor Edcel Greco Lagman said among the possible livelihood training programs that will be given to evacuees are manicure, pedicure, massage, and bread-making.

He stressed that such programs will be beneficial to the women and youth once they return to their homes.

In the recent activities of Mayon Volcano, thousands of families stay in evacuation centers for 45 to 90 days.

Early maturing crops to be planted in evacuation centers

Early maturing seed varieties will be distributed to Mayon-affected families staying in evacuation centers, Albay Provincial Agriculturist Cheryl Rebeta said.

This as residents await for volcanic activities to decrease.

Among the crop varieties that may be planted in their temporary shelters are cabbage, lettuce, bok choy, and cucumber.

Moreover, Rebate said the provincial agriculture office will also teach evacuees the processes of backyard gardening and hydroponics. – gb
