President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday, June 12, posed a challenge to the public to assert liberty each day as the Philippines commemorates the 125th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

In his Independence Day message, Marcos recognized the Filipino solidarity in fighting for freedom across generations and urged the nation “to take to heart the immeasurable courage and loss that came out of our heroes.”

“For this, I challenge each of us: On the 125th year since the declaration of our freedom, let us assert our liberty day by day. In everything we do, let us pursue excellence and integrity with the knowledge that we are living out the visions our predecessors held on to and the comfort they toiled for,” the President said.

“As we look towards a bright future, | urge all of us to take ownership of the fight that gave birth to the independence of our noble and indomitable republic,” he continued.

Marcos said the celebration of Philippine independence is a reminder that “freedom will not materialize unless it is declared boldly, believed sincerely, and demonstrated passionately.”

The First Family led the commemoration on Monday morning at the Rizal Park in Manila, with the President leading the flag-raising and wreath laying ceremonies.

In a separate statement on social media, the chief executive assured that the administration is prioritizing measures for a progressive Philippines.

“Sa pagdiriwang natin sa tagumpay ng mga ninuno at bayani ng bansa, 125 na taon na ang nakalipas, asahan ninyong nakatuon ang ating mga hakbang, katulad ng Philippine Development Plan, sa pagbuo ng isang maunlad na Republika,” his post read. – cf
