5K farmers affected by Mayon Volcano unrest

About 5,000 farmers were affected by the continued Mayon Volcano activities, according to the Provincial Government of Albay.

The affected farmers came from the six-kilometer permanent danger zone around the volcano.

The Provincial Government said the number of the affected farmers are also expected to increase once the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) places Mayon under Alert Level 4.

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture assured assistance for the affected factors.

Mayon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3 or “intensified unrest.”

Buy farmers’ produce as food aid to evacuees

The Provincial Government also urged local government units (LGUs) to buy farmers’ produce as food aid to Mayon Volcano evacuees.

The agri-fishery products available to be bought range from palay, milled rice, corn, vegetables, fruits, pork, chicken, fish, and spices.

The products will form part of the content of food packs that will be distributed to thousands of evacuees sheltered in different evacuation centers in the province.

As of Monday, there were 3,935 families affected by the volcanic unrest.
