More Filipinos are using bicycles for recreational and essential activities, a recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) poll found.

SWS noted that 27% or an estimated 7.5 million of Filipino households cycle for recreational activities, this is up from 18% in April 2022.

Recreational activities include sightseeing (17%), exercising (17%), and playing (3%).

Meanwhile, the number of Filipino households cycling for essential activities rose to 24% from 21% in April 2022.

Most cycle for market, grocery, or store runs.

Household members who cycle also increased to 15%.

The SWS survey also found that 15% or 17.4 million of the 112.9 million household members nationwide are cyclists.

The poll was conducted from March 26 to 29 using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults nationwide. -ag
